Guess what time of the year it is??? PROM! Many teens can’t wait to go to prom because the get to get all dressed up and have a good night. But for parents it’s not such a thrill. The most expensive things are the dress, the tux and dinner. A bunch of other things like buying new shoes, getting your nails done, getting your hair done, and transportation are all contributions to the cost. Here are 12 ways you can save money for prom.
1. Set a budget- Sit your teen done and explain that you can’t spend as much as other people do and tell them this is how much you would like to spend. And to please be respectful of that budget.
2. Go with classic colors and dress styles- Go with classic colors and dress styles that your daughter can wear for another formal event, like weddings.
3. Borrow- If you are the same size as your friends or even your bothers girlfriend (if she is close to your age) ask them if they have anything you could borrow.
4. Shop Smarter- If you don’t want to spend a lot on a dress then go to a discount store such as TJ Maxx.
5. Rent- There is a bunch of places where you can rent dresses from.
6. Compare with online shopping- If you find a dress that you absolutely love but its way out of your price range then find out the name, the style, and who it is designed by. Once you figure all of that stuff out go online and search it. You might be able to get it cheaper online.
7. Shop Second Hand- You can always find great dresses at second hand shops.
8. The Tux- Tux’s are expensive around $150 but that includes the jacket, shirt, vest, pants, and cuff links. If that’s a little too expensive than just rent the pants and the jacket and pair it with stuff you have at home.
9. Company discounts- Check with your local tux stores. Some offer discounts such as Men’s Wearhouse offered a Prom Rep Challenge. If you sign up to be a prom rep you take these cards and you give them to other kids at your school. With that card they get $40 off their tux rental and if you get 5 referrals you get your tux rental for free or a free suit. If you get 10 then you get $100 ITunes gift card.
10. Beauty Party- People spend a lot of time and money on getting their hair, makeup and nails done. If You trust your friends doing your hair and makeup and nails then have a beauty party. You and your friends get together and do each other’s hair, makeup and nails.
11. Tanning??- A lot of people like to tan for prom, but that isn’t very smart. Teenagers should not go tanning, instead go to a tanning both and use a sunless alternative. Or tan naturally.
12. Formal Photos- Formal photo’s cost a lot of money. They may look nice but not for that expense. Instead take some pictures at your house or a friend’s house. Or go to a nice historical place like an old mill or a waterfall.
